Join Wellspring Ensemble for our Spring Concert, UNBREAKABLE, celebrating female composers.

We’re excited to share the stage with Inglemoor High School, directed by Zaldy Rogero, on Saturday and feature our inaugural performance by our High School Invitational Ensemble at both concerts—a dynamic group of talented young singers from across the greater Seattle area. Directed by Wellspring Ensemble's Assistant Director, Daniel Schreiner.

Why an all female composer concert?

  • First, representation and inclusivity comes to mind - highlighting works by female composers promotes gender equity in the arts, providing much-needed representation in a field historically dominated by male composers.

  • Second, celebrating women’s contributions as significant when they have all too often been overlooked. Programming their works acknowledges and celebrates their artistry and innovation.

  • Third, I find such programming educates performers and audiences about the rich diversity of musical voices, inspiring awareness of composers who may not be widely known. This includes our local composers!

  • Fourth, inspiring future generations of singers has always been at the forefront of our mission. Showcasing music by women demonstrates to young, aspiring female musicians and composers that their voices are valued and essential in the choral world.

  • Fifth, female composers often bring unique perspectives and experiences to their work, enriching and broadening the choir’s repertoire and artistic perspectives with diverse themes and styles.

  • Sixth, performing pieces by women encourages discussion about the historical challenges female composers faced and the progress still needed to achieve gender equality in the arts.

  • Finally, a themed concert can attract audiences interested in supporting gender equality and learning more about underrepresented artists, fostering meaningful community conversations. These are the kinds of people I continue to want to surround myself with!
